Questions we get
About sow bugs specifically.
No. They do not bite, they do not sting, and they do not damage the building or anything in it. They are a nuisance and, more usefully, a sign of moisture: sow bugs need damp to survive, so a lot of them indoors is telling you something about a wall, a window well or the grade outside.
Because they move indoors in waves when conditions outside change. A dry spell and a heavy rain both push them off the ground they were living in and toward the perimeter of the house, so you see none for weeks and then a run of them over a few days. It tracks the weather rather than anything you did.
If the damp source stays, yes. Sow bugs are a moisture problem as much as a pest problem, so treating the perimeter without pointing out the window well holding water, or the grade running back toward the wall, buys you a season. We point it out, and the treatment holds far longer once it is dealt with.
